As a Butterfly flutters its wings...

Hi Guys,

A lot can happen when a Butterfly flutters its wings! The Butterfly Effect or Chaos Theory – A theory that fascinates me beyond limits whenever I think about it. One main reason why it fascinates me is that it makes me believe that our whole life is a chain of events where one event lead to the next event and at the end of the day we would do something, because of something that we did years back. It makes me believe another thought that is ‘Whatever happen, happens for a reason’

Butterfly Effect states that, ‘It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a typhoon half the way around the world’. This is very real in terms of real life too where a small decision or advice could turn the events in the future. It is more like a Decision Tree where you are provided with different choices. The first point is the Butterfly Wing and the direction in which you decide to flutter can alter your whole path.

The Tamil movie Dhasavatharam would be based on this theory. A king’s Superstitous belief and idiotic behaviour leads him to throw a statue in the sea, which ultimately creates movement of Tectonic plates and Tsunami centuries later saving thousands of people from a harmful virus.

Thinking a bit in my own life, I can see how Butterfly Effect has played a role in many of the things. I still remember the day when I sent the mail to my brother about an Industrial Visit. After typing all the content, I was hovering over the To Column. I wanted to send it to two of my friends and another part of my mind said not to send. It was good that I sent and that resulted in creation of my blog.

After a few months of writing blog, I was deserted. I had no ideas and I didn’t know where I was heading. A small little dog that lost its way came to my home, a few mischievous squirrels decided to play with my mother, Nat Geo was telecasting about Seals when I switched the TV on and my brother saw a few seals in Argentina. All this lead to the creation of Animal Week post and my brother was impressed with the post and that rejuvenated a lot of passion into me and that is what keeps me writing till now.

Many of the things we consider small and insignificant can have a huge impact in the latter part of life. As the famous proverb goes

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for a want of a Horseshoe nail.

There is a movie known as The Butterfly Effect which is based on this theory. I have already written about the movie and also a few things about the theory two years back. To see the post, ClickHere.

Be Positive!

Hi Guys,

It feels so good to write a post after quite a long time. I am going to write about ‘How small things create a big impact?’ This topic is related with two of my earlier posts – Lets have a positive thought and The Butterfly Effect.

Last Thursday morning was a tired one for me. I woke up at 6 am and I was feeling too drowsy. The continuous stretch of late night sleeps was taking its toll. Apart from that, I was also having a different feeling. I didn’t eat properly the previous night and it was creating some trouble. So I started to get ready.

I opened my mail inbox. My brother had replied to the mail I sent him the previous day. The mail was full of positives. It boosted my activities. He had advised me to continue with my positive momentum. So, I was beginning to experience some change.

Then, I went to my college and as I started to walk, I saw two little kids, One 5 year old girl and her little sister. They were so cute and were coddling each other. Their face was innocent and they were not worrying about anything surrounding them. They were so happy, the kind of happiness only children can have.

Observing them for 10 seconds, my whole mood changed. I even forgot that I was not feeling well. Two small things created a big impact in my mind and the whole day was just awesome. I learned a lot of new things.

Just small things create big impact. Butterfly effect, also called as Chaos Theory states the same – The flutter of a butterfly wings can cause a typhoon at some place half the way around the world after a 1000 years. This has been observed to be true in all the things.

So, starting out with a positive attitude will impact us to do good things and they will make the upcoming things successful.

Positive Thought: Whenever you destroy a Spider's web, it doesn't fall down and die. It again moves to a new location and start building its next web!
So, each morning find something positive. The day may be a very bad one, but certainly there must be some positives, something that you like the most. For instance, observing squirrels makes my mind peaceful. Similarly, photography makes my mind to concentrate, Reading newspapers also do the same. These are things that can change any bad day for me into a beautiful one.

Certainly everyone has something close to your heart. Involve yourself in that thing. If something bad occurs, don’t worry. Whatever happens, happens for a reason. Certainly something good will happen.

Life is Beautiful!

The Butterfly Effect

Hi Guys,

Sometimes we say or hear others saying ‘A small mistake you commit can create blunders later’. This can be a simple definition for Butterfly Effect. Something that has been done is some part of time leads to incidents in some other part of time. The way the theory has developed in fantastic.

Butterfly Effect is the initial condition of Chaos Theory, which itself implies the same meaning. It evolved in the 1960s, when Edward Lorenz of MIT, Cambridge observed that weather prediction can go wrong if a very small value is neglected. Scientists neglected the numbers after 3 decimal places. The prediction went wrong, but it was right when they observed number of 6 decimal places.

Lorenz said, ‘It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a typhoon half the way around the world’. In my perception, Butterfly effect applies to all notes of our life. Everything we do, right from the time we wake up to the time we sleep impact the next day’s work or even our future.

Confused why I’m writing all these things? There has been lot of movies based on the Butterfly Effect or Chaos Theory. Even the Tamil movie Dhasavatharam was based on this theory. Hope you remember Kamal saying about Chaos Theory with the help of a butterfly at the beginning of the movie.

Last week I watched a wonderful movie named ‘The Butterfly effect’. I was largely impressed by the movie. It’s an American Psychological Thriller movie released in 2004.

Movie Review

Evan Treborn lives with his mother in a small town. At his young age (7 and 13), few sad incidents occur. It is believed that he caused the incidents, but Evan doesn’t remember anything that happens at that particular moment. He gets blackened for a few minutes and within that time, the terrible incidents occur. His mother and friends don’t believe him and says he is trying to escape. His mother takes him to a psychiatrist. The doctor tells the boy to take notes of the incidents happening to him.

At 20, when Evan is in college he gets to read the notes which he had written as per doctor’s instruction. He is taken back to the past. He remembers the incidents and he is able to redo things. When he changes the original incidents, he finds himself in the present at a new place. But the incidents he redo, lead to some other unexpected problems. Finally he goes back to the very beginning and makes his friends forget him. He deletes his notes so that he is not tempted to redo things again.

All along the way, Evan appears in different roles like a prisoner, amputee, etc. The incidents changes very quickly in the later part of the movie. At one moment Evan will be in college and in another 5 minutes he will be in some other place and so on. I was confused the first time I watched the movie. But I understood it when I read reviews and critics in websites. Overall it was a wonderful movie.
